Anthony Provazza, MSW, LICSW
2012 Honoree
Oncology Social Worker
Oncology social worker Anthony Provazza, MSW, LICSW, is highly regarded by his patients as well as his colleagues in the John and Claire Bertucci Center for Genitourinary Cancers at Mass General.
Anthony has enormous sensitivity to the issues facing men undergoing treatment for prostate cancer. He helps them as they make difficult treatment decisions affecting their health and quality of life. Anthony’s patients know they are not alone as they make these choices.
He provides patients with emotional support as well as guidance in coping with treatment that may disrupt continence and sexual function. Counseling patients individually and through group sessions, Anthony assists patients in acknowledging and solving the problems they encounter and finding ways to improve their daily lives and relationships with loved ones during and after treatment.
“Anthony has been a great help to me as I navigated my cancer journey,” writes Howard Elkins, “Anthony’s prostate cancer support group made my life much easier and helped me better understand and tolerate my treatment. He has the same impact on others, and he is extremely well respected by his peers. Anthony does all this like it’s second nature.”
