Carolyn N. Krasner, MD
2011 Honoree
Medical Oncologist, Gillette Center for Gynecologic Oncology
As a gynecologic oncologist, Carolyn Krasner, MD, cares for some extremely sick and vulnerable patients, including many from disadvantaged backgrounds. The embodiment of the compassionate physician, Dr. Krasner takes exceptional care of her patients, and does so in a quiet, humble manner.
One desperately ill young patient was nearing the end of her life. With no further therapy to offer her patient, Dr. Krasner instead focused on helping her enjoy her remaining time as much as possible. Her patient loved Bruce Springsteen, and when Dr. Krasner learned that he was coming to Boston to give a concert, she didn’t rest until she reached “The Boss” himself. She deftly arranged prime seats for her patient along with backstage passes to meet Bruce and his band.
Dr. Krasner hardly told anyone what she had done. But her thrilled patient let everyone know about her wonderful evening. Dr. Krasner’s colleagues were delighted, but not surprised. They know Dr. Krasner is unassuming when it comes to herself — and totally dedicated when it comes to her patients.
