2012 Honoree

Infusion Nurse

Mass General Cancer Center infusion nurse Elizabeth Favulli, RN, BSN, is the face of compassion to her patients and their loved ones. They cherish her nurturing warmth, and they admire her grit as each year she cycles the grueling Pan- Mass Challenge. They know that she conquers its 192-mile course to honor them and raise funds for cancer research.

Elizabeth regards her patients as the real heroes, as they endure weekly chemotherapy treatments for months at a time. She does her utmost to ease their ordeal, and often develops close relationships with them.

Among her many remarkable patients is Lanna Kelley. In September 2010, at age 30, Lanna lost her two-year battle with cancer. “Lanna’s courageous fight started and ended at Mass General,” write her friends Luba Pishchik and Lianna Mazzei. “Lanna died surrounded by her family and friends, and her second family, her caregivers at Mass General.

“Liz and Lanna formed a special bond. Liz relieved Lanna’s anxiety with a kind word, a soft touch and a loving smile. She helped Lanna and her loved ones get through those dark days.

“Liz was with us as we celebrated Lanna’s life with a memorial service. We will never forget her devotion to Lanna.”

The 2013 one hundred event is June 5 at the Westin Boston Waterfront
