Isadore Sharp

2011 Honoree

Philanthropist

Isadore Sharp, the charismatic founder and CEO of the Four Seasons Hotels, has led Four Seasons properties throughout the world in raising more than $500 million for cancer research.

More than three decades ago, Isadore was inspired by the legendary Terry Fox to start the international hotel chain’s Terry Fox Running Program. Terry was only 19 years old in 1977 when he lost his leg to cancer. Dedicated to raising funds for cancer research, Terry embarked on a cross-Canada run and traveled 3,339 miles in 143 days on a prosthetic leg. Before his death from cancer in 1981, Terry ran many other marathons to benefit cancer research.

Isadore has led every Four Seasons Hotel throughout the world in organizing an annual Terry Fox Walk/Run to raise funds for a local cancer research facility. The run sponsored by the Four Seasons Hotel Boston has raised more than $300,000 for the childhood cancer program at the MassGeneral Hospital for Children Cancer Center.

“Last year’s run, we were honored to have Mr. Sharp as the guest speaker,” says Howard Weinstein, MD, unit chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at MassGeneral Hospital for Children. “His magnetism and leadership were evident to all of us, as was his love for children.”
