Jeff Guyer
2012 Honoree
Advocate, Philanthropist
Jeff Guyer lost his battle with liposarcoma in June 2011 — but his strong spirit lives on in his loved ones. “To me, he was amazing,” writes his wife, Autumn. “And I’ve come to see how inspiring he was to so many, including the patients and caregivers at Mass General who got to know him.”
One eulogist said, “He had every right to feel embittered … He chose instead to fight on. He made everyone feel instantly loved and appreciated.”
Jeff motivated others to join him in living life to the fullest and advancing cancer research. The day after his diagnosis, he started a blog, Living with the Big C, a candid and positive chronicle of what it’s like to live with cancer.
Jeff brought the mind of an engineer, the soul of an artist and the strength of a cyclist to his pursuits. His fundraiser, “Team Jaguar, Cycling Against Sarcoma,” raised more than $200,000 for cancer research.
Sheily Srinivas writes, “My brother is battling sarcoma. Even though I never met Jeff — I live in India — his blog gave me courage and hope and taught me that the quality of life matters, not the quantity.”
