Jessica A. Berry, RN, BSN, OCN
2012 Honoree
Staff Nurse, Lunder 9
Jessica Berry, RN, BSN, OCN, an exemplary oncology nurse, often serves as a preceptor to new nurses on her unit in the Mass General Cancer Center.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better role model,” writes Christina Patti, RN, who observed Jess conduct thorough patient assessments, teach patients their chemotherapy regimens and provide compassionate end-of-life support to patients and family members.
Jess involved Christina in helping care for a patient who was dying of lung cancer. Jess comforted the patient’s family and shared her own stories with them. Knowing that the patient took pride in always looking her best, Jess gently washed and styled the woman’s hair. The patient’s husband later wrote to Mass General Chief Nurse Jeanette Ives Erickson, RN, DNP, FAAN, and Mass General President Peter Slavin, MD, praising Jess for her extraordinary kindness to his wife during her last days of life.
Christina writes, “Those of us who are privileged to work with Jess know that she provides extraordinary care to each patient every day.”
