Katie Carpenter, RTT
2012 Honoree
Team Leader, Radiation Therapist, Francis H. Burr Proton Therapy Center
Katie Carpenter, RTT, has been a radiation therapist at the Mass General Cancer Center for more than eight years. For two of these years, she has been an RTT-team leader at the Francis H. Burr Proton Therapy Center, overseeing the treatment room that handles the majority of pediatric cases. As the team leader, she ensures compliance with safety policies and procedures, collaborates with nursing and anesthesia staff in scheduling complex patients, and is responsible for the efficient flow of treatment delivery.
Katie provides a presence that is reassuring, comforting and professional in an environment that, due to its technical nature, may be overwhelming to both young patients and their parents and loved ones. Her soft-spoken demeanor, quick smile and gentle hands-on care sets patients at ease. She proactively offers explanations in clear, understandable language. Despite a busy schedule, Katie gives the patients and their families her undivided attention. She is a dedicated professional who practices compassionate, patient-centered care.
