Kelly Skelton
2012 Honoree
Volunteer Organizer
Kelly Skelton is a 14-year-old high school freshman whose heart and spirit are as outsized as he is (6’2” with size 15 feet). From the time he was a young child he has been involved in community activities that benefit the less fortunate. This past year, upon learning about his mother’s friend’s diagnosis with cancer, he became involved with the Voices of Hope (VOH) cancer fundraising organization. He threw himself wholeheartedly into raising funds for cancer research through VOH. He organized spaghetti dinners at the Billerica Boys & Girls Club, donated his toys and games and got his friends to donate theirs as well for a successful toy yard sale, organized bake sales and got community businesses to assist in raising funds. All proceeds from these endeavors benefit VOH and cancer research at Boston-area hospitals.
Kelly and his family organized the Skelton Cohere Club on Facebook, a club dedicated to getting the word out about sponsorships and activities geared to raising funds for those in need. Kelly is making a difference, and helping us feel secure that the future is in good hands.
