Mark, Brooke and Gregg Goldstein
2011 Honoree
Philanthropists
Mark and Brooke Goldstein (pictured right) first came to Mass General in 1991, when their son David (pictured left), then age seven, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After numerous operations, courses of chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and radiation therapy, David succumbed to cancer at age 21. David’s courage and sense of humor were legendary to the caregivers who were lucky enough to know him during his valiant, 14-year struggle.
David’s parents and his older brother, Gregg (pictured center), enveloped him with their love and were always by his side. They also gave time and support to the hospital’s Pediatric Hematology and Oncology Clinic.
The entire family was beloved by the staff. With joy and heart, they joined and supported events for patients. They continue to make an annual contribution that fully funds the clinic’s holiday party for patients and families. Their gifts also enhanced the playroom, which is named in honor of David.
Giving still more, the Goldsteins established the Connecting for a Cure Foundation, which supports childhood cancer research at Mass General and the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Florida. Their generosity is making a difference to countless families.
