Martin (Marty) Murphy Jr., PhD, DMedSc, is the founding executive director of The Oncologist, a top-tier clinical cancer research journal published in the United States, Europe and China. As a founding member of the CEO Roundtable on Cancer, he is a prominent proponent for cancer research on the national scene, bringing together the leadership of American and European industry to support innovative research and establishing vital industry, government and academic partnerships.
Marty is a member of the board of the Foundation for National Institutes of Health (FNIH), and has been responsible for the recruitment of other key industry leaders to the FNIH board. He is also chairman of the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Marty championed the All Ireland Cancer Concord, a bilateral agreement focused on cancer research, and has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Queen’s University School of Medicine in Belfast for his promotion of cross-border cancer research collaboration by the United States National Cancer Institute, Queen’s University Cancer Center in Belfast and cancer centers in the Republic of Ireland. He also serves on the steering committee and is senior consultant to the Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology.
