Senior Histology Technician

Sven Holder, HT, is a senior histology technician in the frozen section laboratory of Mass General’s Department of Pathology. His meticulous behind-the-scenes work guides daily critical decisions by cancer surgeons every day, who rely on timely information garnered from frozen sections.

“Every surgeon here knows that the quality and timeliness of their frozen section analyses are optimal when in Sven’s hands,” says Kenneth Tanabe, MD, chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology. “And Sven’s lab colleagues know that his incredible performance is critical to the efficiency and quality of their unit’s work.”

Sven’s top-notch biospecimens also enhance the efficiency and quality of the tumor bank and other Cancer Center research protocols.

“My fellow surgeons can’t say enough about Sven’s talent and dedication,” adds Dr. Tanabe. “They remark about the superb quality of his slides and stains. He is a superstar to us. Plus, he is a great person with wonderful interpersonal skills.”
