Laura Sullivan, RN

Caregiver | 2016

Laura Sullivan, RN, a gynecologic oncology nurse supporting five physicians and a nurse practitioner, does not let her busy schedule keep her from getting to know her patients and what matters to them.

Laura always takes the time to learn about her patients, their families, their interests and their circumstances. She never lets cancer define her relationship with them.

“The human touch is what makes Laura the most special nurse I know,” says gynecologic oncologist Carolyn Krasner, MD.

Laura’s patient, Margaret Walsh, has been receiving monthly hormone therapy to treat uterine sarcoma for the past 10 years. When Laura learned Margaret lives on a fixed income, she began passing on clothes to her from a friend who is Margaret’s size. Recently, when Margaret’s son was getting married, Laura made sure that Margaret had a proper mother-of-the-groom outfit.

“Laura has always treated me with dignity and grace,” says Margaret. “She is always encouraging and positive. Her kindness and generosity goes above and beyond her position. She has made a positive impact on my life. It has been a scary situation, and she has helped me through the health issues I have run into for 10 years now. I love her dearly and look forward to our monthly get-togethers for shots.”
